The Animal Clinic is very proud to be one of only 20 veterinary practices in the state of Alabama that have met the strict requirements to be a certified American Animal Hospital Association approved veterinary hospital. AAHA Pet Owner | AAHA


The Animal Clinic's mission is to provide up-to-date medical care for companion animals at a sensible and affordable cost. State-of-the-art laboratory, digital x-ray, ultrasound, and many other modern diagnostic procedures allow us to provide the most effective treatment and counseling ensuring the best quality of life for your best friend.


The Animal Clinic is at the forefront of telemedicine. Digital radiographs, ultrasounds, and other diagnostic procedures are sent via the Internet to board certified specialists and a written consultation is emailed back, usually within two hours. Board-certified veterinary specialist are available for consultation and their services are frequently used. Dr. Drake also works very closely with Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine for consultation and referral.

  • Anthony C. Drake, DVM

    Dr. Tony Drake is a native Alabamian having grown up on a farm in East Alabama. As early as 12 years old, he knew that caring for animals would be his passion throughout life. He attended Auburn University and graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree at the age of 23. 


    After practicing briefly in Birmingham, Alabama, he moved to Montgomery where he has been practicing small animal medicine ever since. Upon the retirement of his father-in-law, Dr. Gordon Kendall, he became the owner of The Animal Clinic. The Animal Clinic was established in 1942 by Dr. Kendall and is the oldest established veterinary practice in the River Region.


    Aside from being very active in the veterinary profession, Dr. Drake is very active in his church, Aldersgate United Methodist, an avid Auburn sports fan, and enjoys reading and studying history.

  • Hugo Sanchez

    Hugo is an extremely valuable member of our staff. He is our groomer and animal caretaker. As animal caretaker, Hugo takes great pride in his job of feeding, exercising, and providing hygiene for the animals being housed at The Animal Clinic. Hugo is undoubtedly by far the best animal caretaker that has ever worked in the long history of The Animal Clinic. Hugo'™s heart is Benny, his 120 pound œgentle giant Rottweiler.


    Among his many duties, Hugo also serves as our translator for our growing Hispanic clientele. Above all, everyone of our clients love Hugo. Hugo has a huge heart and will do everything in his power to take the best care of your pets and to please you.

  • Jim Skinner

    Jim is a native of Pennsylvania. After serving several years in the Air Force and living and working in Georgia after leaving the Air Force, he moved to Montgomeryfive years ago. Jim is experienced in technology and has been a tremendous asset bringing The Animal Clinic to the forefront of veterinary medical technology.


    Jim loves animals, especially small breed dogs. Jim is a very likable person and his attention to detail has been a great addition to the staff of The Animal Clinic.

  • Marissa Craig

    Marissa Craig

    Marissa Craig is a pre-vet student at AUM.  Her love of animals and biology made an easy decision for her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.

    She is native of Montgomery where she attended Catholic High School and was a stand-out on the varsity track team.

    She is a very likable and charming young lady who has become a big hit with our clients and their pets. Her hobbies include doing community service work through her sorority and hanging out with her family, friends and her dogs Winston and Coconut.

  • Alaina Wrencher

    A military family member, Alaina lived in Holland and Panama prior to making Montgomery, AL her home. She graduated from LAMP High School and went on to study at the University of Pittsburgh, where she graduated magna cum laude.

    Upon graduation, she received a fellowship at the Marcus Autism Center in Atlanta, GA. She began graduate studies at Georgia State University shortly thereafter but has since decided to pursue Diagnostic Medical Sonography instead.

  • Mekaela Woods

    Originally from California, Mekaela now calls Montgomery, AL her home. Her love of animals led to working in the veterinary field for three years prior to being hired here.

    Her feline family member has developed the skill of intentionally shooting rubber bands while playing with them.

  • Olivia Briceno

    Currently a bio-med. student at Troy University, Olivia is a passionate individual whose love for animals led her to The Animal Clinic. She first came to The Animal Clinic as a volunteer but soon transitioned into a member of the staff.

    Olivia has been devoted to animals from a very young age, declaring at the age of eight that she would one day become a veterinarian. This dream continues to thrive as Olivia’s current goal is to apply to Auburn University’s veterinarian program after completing her four year degree at Troy University.

  • Hannah Hughes

    Hannah has lived in Prattville for 21 years. She lives with her 4 dogs, Barry, Kara, Bentley and Cereal and is very dedicated to their health and welfare. Her mother is a teacher at Marbury and she has a brother named Cameron. 

    She went to Billingsley High School through 11th grade and then graduated from Marbury in 2016. She played volleyball, basketball and ran track during her school career.

    Her love of animals led her to pursue a career in the veterinary field which she plans to continue pursuing into the future.
